
Dhomonique Ricks is a reporter for ABC-13 in Lynchburg, Virginia. Previously she was a reporter and anchor for KOMU-8 TV based in Columbia, Missouri. She was also the host of "Making A Difference TV," part of CAT3TV. One of her most memorable KOMU-8 stories came from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She traveled there to report on the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav. Dhomonique also covered President Obama's visit to Columbia and reported live on election night in St. Louis for Missouri's Governor's race.
She was nationally selected four years ago to be a part of the notable Emma Bowen Foundation. Through it, Dhomonique interned with KMSP Fox 9 News in Minneapolis for three years. The summer of 2008, she reported on-air three times and produced shows for the web. Dhomonique was recently acknowledged by the Society of Professional Journalists as a winner of four region 7 Mark of Excellence Awards. She won first place in: Breaking News Coverage, General Assignment Reporting and Feature Reporting. She placed second in In-Depth Reporting. Dhomonique was also selected as one of four journalists to win the NATAS Mid-America Walter Cronkite Scholarship in 2008. She was nationally selected as one of 12 individuals to take part in the 2009 Meredith-Cronkite Fellowship where she reported and anchored at KPHO studios in Phoenix. In 2008, she was selected for the competitive IRTS Minority Career Workshop. Dhomonique was also a handpicked representative for the first school of journalism, serving as a Journalism Ambassador for the MU School of Journalism.
In 2007, she received the Twin Cities National Association of Black Journalists’ student scholarship award. In her spare time, Dhomonique works with high school aspiring journalists, most from inner city areas, as a ‘Three-Sixty’ Journalism advisor. She holds memberships in: NABJ, RTNDA, SPJ and AFAA. She is also a certified aerobics instructor. Dhomonique has a background in print, radio and television journalism. She has two years of radio experience, interning for Minneapolis' B96 FM Radio and working for NPR's KBIA radio. In her earlier days, she wrote for the Star Tribune as a ‘Minnesota Youth News’ reporter and was an editor for school publications
Dhomonique graduated from the University of Missouri with a major in Broadcast Journalism and a dual minor in Business Management and Sociology. Her career as a journalist dates back to the age of 15 when she landed her first hosting job on NBC’s teen entertainment show, “Whatever;” produced by KARE 11. Through her work on Whatever, Dhomonique landed interviews with A-list celebrities including: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Tyrese (Exclusive interview), Ziggy Marley (Exclusive interview), Taj Mahal, Ying Yang Twins, Story of the Year, Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, Ice Cube, Kimberly Locke, LC, Bare Naked Ladies, Christina Milian, Hanson and Emile Hirsch.
Some of Dhomonique's hobbies include: traveling, photography, exercising, figure skating, hiking, theater, meeting new people and spending time with her friends, family and Cocker Spaniel.
